Guoyuan Port aims to complete 6,000 New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) freight trains and transport more than 300 thousand Twenty-feet Equivalent Unit (TEU) of goods by 2027, boosting 40 billion yuan of foreign trade for Liangjiang New Area, according to the 5-year action plan released by the new area to accelerate the ILSTC construction.

The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor is a trade and logistics passage jointly built by Singapore and provincial-level regions of western China. Chongqing Municipality is the center of operation for the corridor.

Located in Liangjiang New Area in Chongqing, Guoyuan Port is the largest port on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. With its multi-mode transportation network, the port seamlessly connects ILSTC with China Europe Railway Express and the Yangtze River Golden Waterway, and links Chongqing with Central Asia, Europe, and the ASEAN market.

In the first eight months of this year, Guoyuan Port saw a cargo throughput exceeding 18.1 million tons, up 10.1% year on year. ILSTC freight trains, with regular services at the port, operated a total of 404 freight trips, a surge of 43% year-on-year.

For enterprises engaging in foreign trade, the ILSTC freight train service at Guoyuan Port provides a more effective and less costly logistics solution. According to Zhang Xingyan, the general manager of the overseas business unit of SERES, the ILSTC cut the time for their products to reach Indonesia from 30 days to 18 days. As a leading NEV manufacturer in China and Huawei’s auto partner, SERES has exported its NEV to more than 70 countries and regions, and its overseas market revenue in 2022 saw a 47.81% increase year-on-year.

According to the 5-year action plan, Liangjiang will enhance the ILSTC construction by high standards through improving infrastructure, building a multimodal transportation system, enhancing the integration of modern logistics, deepening institutional reforms and innovation, strengthening digitalization, upgrading logistics parks, and expanding the scale of market entities.

By leveraging its transportation system that combines rail, road, and waterway, Guoyuan port will enhance the multimodal transportation system, accelerate the construction of the ILSTC logistics hub, and integrate with the Yangtze River Golden Waterway, Jiangbei International Airport, and other hubs.

On logistics integration, the new area, holding the advantageous position of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity and a demonstration zone for promoting import trade, will explore a“dual-hub” visualized platform connecting Guoyuan port and Singapore port, support importing of high-quality goods from ASEAN countries, and build an international distribution center of premium agricultural products.(Liangjiang New Area)
