March 1, the first day of the spring semester for primary and secondary schools in Chongqing, Qinghe Tongxin Primary School in Liangjiang New Area moved its classroom to the rapeseed fields on campus and gave the children a special comprehensive lesson on aesthetic education.
When stepping into Qinghe Tongxin Primary School, the rapeseed flowers were in full bloom around the school building, one after the other. Led by teachers, the children got to know the rapeseed flowers, the symbol of spring, and searched for the secrets of nature in the flower fields together.
“Let’s begin by seeing what characteristics we have observed in the rapeseed flowers.” Before the teacher finished speaking, the children raised their hands:“Teacher, rapeseed flowers are golden yellow, how beautiful they are!”“Teacher, rapeseed flowers grow really tall.”“Rapeseed flowers can also be used to make oil!”...
“Students, look at the rapeseed flower in my hand, it is composed of sepals, petals, stamens and pistils! Smell it, what a fragrance!”
The children carefully held the rapeseed flower, observed it carefully, and wrote down its characteristics to record their first nature notes in spring. Junyi, a second grader, said happily,“It’s the first time I’ve observed a rapeseed flower so carefully, and I didn’t think there would be so much interesting knowledge hidden in a small rapeseed flower!”
It is not enough just to observe and draw them out, but the“rapeseed classroom” integrates aesthetic education with language, science, labor and other courses, and when the rapeseed grows, the children will experience the harvest with their own hands.
Principal Qin Bo said that after the establishment of Qinhe Tongxin Primary School, teachers and students created a field on the campus and planted different kinds of plants and flowers to provide different scenery and lessons in all seasons. In spring, the children will find themselves a small piece of land, loosen the soil with a shovel, plant the seeds, water them, spread fertilizer and plant green“hope”. In autumn, the children will pick what they have harvested by hand. (Translated by Wang Junli, Fathom Language Limited)
